Automatic removal of "Drawing 1"

In previous versions of AutoCAD, the default drawing, "Drawing 1", disappears once another file is opened. However, this currently is not happening with our recent upgrade to 2008. I hope there is a system variable that can be toggled to change this. Is there, and if so, what is it?

That is usually a symptom that a startup routine you have edited the
drawing1 file: finding that is the fix.

By chance is your startup set to change/auto-load some default variables
settings?

Yes, I have a LISP file that allows me to reset a number of variables to my own defaults. I also have a ARX file that allows the other open CAD files to appear as tabs so I don't have to use the Window pull-down.
If this issue can be resolved through a system variable, I'll be able to add that to my list - see below

(DEFUN C:ZZZ () (COMMAND

"APBOX" "0"
"APERTURE" "10"
"BLIPMODE" "0"
"COLOR" "BYLAYER"
"COPYMODE" "0"
"CURSORSIZE" "100"
"DONUTID" "0"
"EDGEMODE" "1"
"ELEVATION" "0"
"EXPERT" "1"
"FILEDIA" "1"
"FILLETRAD" "0"
"-LAYER" "S" "0" ""
"LAYERMODIFY" "0"
"LAYEREVAL" "0"
"-LINETYPE" "S" "BYLAYER" ""
"MBUTTONPAN" "1"
"PICKBOX" "5"
"SHORTCUTMENU" "0"
"SKPOLY" "1"
"SKETCHINC" "0"
"UCSFOLLOW" "1"
"VISRETAIN" "1"
))

(DEFUN C:QQ () (COMMAND
"PURGE" "A" "*" "N"
"AUDIT" "Y"
))

There is no variable to do what you seek: start AutoCAD/ACA with a drawing
might be the way to go.

Well, not the answer I was hoping for, but at least we won't waste any time searching for a solution.

Check back later, I'm not the only voice around here, there may be other
tips.

I also recall seeing details in the plain AutoCAD areas (2009 or 2008) on
how to start AutoCAD with no template, if you want to search there you might
find something that works for you.
