autocad architecture export?

hello everyone,
I got a quick question and would really appreciate some help to get me out of this mess that i got my self into.
im doing a viz for a job. a friend showed me auto cad architecture on his machine, so i got the plans that needed to be traced otherwise in maya
hit up walls and in a couple of minutes had the hardest part of my work finished, now comes the problem that i cant find a solution to.
I cant find a way to transfer my model to maya, iv been trying for 2 days straight.
first, i checked the direct connect plug in in maya which allows me to import .dwg and .dxf
but at most i get my model broken up into nurbs curves. so every wall is broken down into basic lines... !?!?!?!
this gets me thinking that its probably something to do with the way cad exports it obviosly, but im unfumiliar with the interface and dont have a clue if its even posible to convert the walls inside autocad to get polys.

anyone have a clue what im getting at????
help will be greatly apriciated, thanks in advance 🙂

Probably can't help, I don't know Maya. However, in the options of Acad are settings for how AutoCad exports drawings. Look and see if there is something in there that may help you.

Good Luck,

Have you actually used the 'export to acad' command or are you trying to open the ACA2010 file directly in Maya?

I was sending ADT06 and ACA09 files to someone with same or later version of
max and he was able to bring them straight into Max with no issues. Maybe if
you have access to Max you could round trip it as Max can obviously read the
file. You can export or save as 3ds file though that had problems with some
faces with normals reversed. (there is a 3dsout.arx file somewhere around).
Make sure you have the file in an isoview in ACA before importing so the 3d
componants are visible.
