I've been drawing rectangles for about 20 years or so by issueing the command, pick the first point of the rectangle, and then specifying the second point using the relative symbol "@".
In 2011 this doesn't seem to work any longer, using the "@" simply cancels the rectangle command.
Am I missing something?
Leo
hmm... I've never done it that way before, but I just tried it and it works fine here (Aca 2011)
The command name is RECTANG, could it be that "rectangle" is a customization that behaves differently?
Why not type .RECTANG (note the period) and confirm you are truly only using the core command.
That's it......the core command....works fine now.
So.....they did change something (autodesk)
Like the people in the supermarket, they get bored....and start changing stuff around on the shelves.
Just when you get used to something.
Thx
Leo
err, no, they changed nothing with RECTANG command since it was created many decades ago.
Actually, I've just come to realize that this only happens occasionally.
Sometimes it works, sometimes it cancels the command as soon as I enter the @ symbol.
Have noticed this at work as well as at home.
Another bug pehaps ?
I too have noticed. I've been using ACAD since release 7 (i think) and REC has always been a command. It wasn't until recently that the @ symbol started cancelling the command (R2010 maybe), but like you said - not always. I noticed that if i do it fast without looking it will cancel, but if i sssllloooowww down...and type it real nice....it works....
PS - all the odd autcad versions are just that - ODD!!!!
Could the difference be whether or not you have Dynamic Input turned on at the time you are executing the RECTANG command? The system variables behind Dynamic Input are all registry-based, so it should not matter what drawing you are in at the time.
[PS - REC is a standard keyboard shortcut for RECTANG in the shipping version of ACAD.pgp. Assuming you have not loaded a custom LISP routine (or other customization) that defines a command for "REC" or have redefined the "RECTANG" command, you should be getting the RECTANG command when you type REC at the Command Prompt: and then press enter.]
I have the dynamic input turned off.
No lisp redefining the REC command.
Just add behaviour.
Sometimes it works, sometimes it cancels the command when entering the @ symbol.
Same at work computer as at home computer.
Seems like a bug to me.
And as per previous posts, it seems that every odd numbered version seems to have it's problems.
I do sooo remember Acad 13
Matter of fact....just discovered this is now happening with the LINE command as well.
Issue L command,
Pick start point of line,
@ (relative from) cancels the command altogether.
Seems like a Bug with capital B to me.
Just a silly question... If you have multiple languages installed in windows and you have the language bar on your widows task bar, you may (while inside autocad) be pressing by mistake (alt+shift) witch changes the keyboard mapping from your current language to your secondary language... So some letters may work but the @ sign might not...
It might sound silly but it happened to me once...

R13....now that was a funny version....
i'm a typer - learned that way - way back when - it took me forever to figure out that when i type fast i was accidentally hitting something triggering snap to come on. very annoying...cntrl+B - drove me nuts!! but now when it comes on i know what i must have hit...LOL
