AutoCAD Architectural Desktop 2012 Section Error Message

When trying to cut a section in ADT 2012 I get the following message:

Command: _AecVerticalSection

Command not allowed because drawing contains objects from a newer version of 

this application.

How can i get ADT 2012 to cut the section i need?

Your file was last saved in a 2013/2014 version of AutoCAD: you are now pretty much locked out of using AEC content.
Your choices are to find an older copy of this file that you can start from, or you need to upgrade to 12013/2014 version of ACA (of course, you can test my theory by either posting that DWG file here or downloading the current shipping ACA2014 and trying the section cut tool there).
