Autocad 2010 - Autocad is running out of system memory

I am using Autocad 2010. I am using HP workstation 4600. The system configuration are as follows:
Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPu E7400 @2.53Ghz 2.53GHz, 4.0 GB RAM, 64bit Operating system (Windows Vista Business)

The problem is that I am getting the error "Autocad is running out of system memory.Continuing the current command may result in program failure or loss of data. Do you want to cancel the current command?

seems to be a common problem.  Not letting go
of memory. seems to occur after a time and having other applications going as
well.

try restarting.

How much do you loose cancelling the current
command??

Just cancel, save and restart.  ok not a great
solution but it's all you got until they work the memory thing out
better.

Nathan,

When you receive the message, it's too late,
because you can not save the drawing or use any command anymore.

I've had this issue since I upgraded to 2010 from 2009. Restarting is not a solution; just a band-aid. 2010 has a problem with releasing memory; 2009 had the same issue, but they released an update that seemed to fix it.

Will Autodesk send an update to 2010 to fix this issue. It's more commom than you think.

The OP is running a 64-bit OS - there is no 3GB switch option in the 64-bit
version because there is no 2GB program address limit.

Normally I would say that restarting is a PITA way of solving a software problem, however since Autocad Architecture has fatal errors 6 or 7 times a day, it saves me the trouble of restarting when it reaches its critical memory point. Today I had anew and exciting Out of Memory crash. When the error messages told me that Acad could not continue and I said don't save, since I had just opened the drawing, it not only crashed, but it crashed Itunes, outlook, and Windows! I know we are making progress when Acad can crash the whole system.

You guys are not going to believe this.
I was working in my drawings, I wanted to take a break so I stopped and came to view the questions and found this one.
I wanted to know if AD found a solution a solution.
I remember last time I had this problem was about 6-8 months ago... So I was very happy that wasn't happening with me.
Break over and went back to my drawings...
hahaha
I tried to save the dwg (I save every time I can now) and there it came back.... but not only that I took the NO option and the software shut down on me.
It is not funny but what else I can do...
Merry Christmas...

Indeed. We see it every day. It's clearly a memory leak. The situation is easily triggered by dividing the screen into multiple model space viewports in multiple open drawings. I will attempt to create a reliable way to trigger the problem and send it in as a subscription tech request.

HI,

I thought I would bounce this post - I and the 40 machines in my office and they all have this problem.

Its very frustrating.

We are using Win XP, AutoCAD Architecture 2010, 4GB ram, Core2Duo processor, and various (fairly good) graphics cards.

Is there a fix for this???

Cheers.

for the love of all that is good, please resolve the memory leak issue!
Message 16 of 30

Yes - this is a really annoying bug.

You can reduce its occurrence, but closing and opening AutoCAD every so often.

Its caused by AutoCAD not releasing memory when a drawing is closed, and so after open and closing a load of drawings you eventually run out of memory.

I find closing AutoCAD at lunchtime and opening it mostly stops this occurring.

They really need to find the bugs with 2010 - there's a lot more than 2008 which we upgraded from...

Same problem here... really have to shut down to end the "running out of memory" error message. It really chokes me that we all spend thousands of dollars on purchase & maintanence - and errors such as this occur (not getting into the FATAL ERROR issue).

I am using an ASUS, duocore INTEL 6600 @ 2.4GHz / 1.58GHz, 4GB ram... Windows XP SP3. I will look into the 3GB switch.

I believe the link posted is broken.

We're having this message and yet a Vista Sidebar gadget shows we still have over 1G of memory available. What gives?
