Not that I know of.
Max will import the .dwg file as is (equivelent version).
You could mabe simplify somewhat the styles before opening in max.
Save the file off as a new file.
Edit wall styles removing internal unseen componants leaving only the
external skin.
Getting to just a surface I don't think is possible. A componant is always a
volume.
You can create a componant with a 0 width and mabe that exists as a surface
only but I'm not sure how that would react around openings.
If your walls reside on layer A-Wall, and you don't hardcode layers into the
style then they should all be on A-Wall but will still be seperate
componants.
Doesn't the material assignments stay when brought into Max?
If you set your styles to display 'ByMaterial' then I think that might have
better outcome.
just some rambling thoughts.
cheers

Hello,
What´s the best way to import a model from ACA to 3ds Max (for rendering)?
So far I´ve simply used the File Link Manager in 3ds to import the dwg file,
but the problem is that I´ve used ACA objects which contain lot of
information not needed in the rendering model (wall structure etc.). I would
like to import the model so that the imported objects would only include the
surface and furthermore the model would be imported by its style (or layer
if that´s a way) so that the model would be as light as possible.
E.g. I have 15 walls that have the same style Wall-1, when imported there
are 15 Wall-1 walls and furthermore their layers etc. in 3ds. What I want is
that all the 15 walls would be one object when imported so in 3ds there
would only be one Wall-1 - is this possible? And if possible the material of
the surface structure would also be imported.
All the help in this matter appreciated!
Is there a discussion group for Autodesk 3ds max?
