2010 Select and move back faces

I've just moved to 2010. Whats the best way to select and move a back face on a solid? It seems that you now use the ctrl key to select faces and then move them. But it doesn't seem to select back faces very well so currently I end up rotating the view around to move a face. This is an extra step I don't want to take. Is there a better way?

No. That unfortunately is the necessity.

Hmm well that sucks. So the old method of selecting one of its edges to select a face is gone completely? That would be a step backwards.
