We can't open our drawing, need help

Hello ACAD Community,

I can't for my life open this drawing that I've worked on. Here at Baron Design & Associates, we've tried to open this on multiple computers and the file still does not open. It has a long what seems like loading that actually may just be an autocad crash.

Can anyone help me resolve the issue with this drawing file?

The files is a dropbox link since I cannot upload bigger than 5 mb.

https://www.dropbox.com/s/qyy82cfc6o92zxo/201411-A6.2-Int%20Elev.dwg?dl=0

The XREF'd files, base plan and title block, are also found in these links:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/ucjbmnuf70t1u8r/201411-x-base-plan.dwg?dl=0

https://www.dropbox.com/s/m4xbqks6frf7i3i/201411-x-title%20blk.dwg?dl=0

Would be so greatful for your help, Thank you.

Your file has the following clutter:
DGN Linetypes Purged : 6520
DGN Complex Linetypes Purged : 120885
DGN Text Styles Purged : 1161
Registry Applications Purged : 64
Annotation Scales Purged : 88
Blocks Purged : 5
Layers Purged : 423
Plot Style Purged : 10
Materials Purged : 4

RECOVER/AUDIT found 32 issues as well.

Here is your 940k primary file back: turned out it did not need to be 10MB for any good reason. I did not downlod any of the other support/xref files.

Wow! The files works now, and definitely did not know why our files got so large.  We are starting to implement the hotfix in attempt to reduce file size/clutter.

What is the "RECOVERY/AUDIT 32 Issues" ?

Also we've tried the "PURGE" command but the file sizes still remain relatively above 5 megabytes even with all items purged, is this because we need the Hotfix update?

Thank you so much for all your help Dean!

I had similar results a Dean with a different proceedure.  The actual errors in the drawing were found by Audit and the results are as follows.  The rest was primarily "DGN Bloat"

Hey Nestly2,

The help you gave definitely solved the issue, thank you so much.

Where do I get the option to use the command "DGN BLOAT"?
I don't have it inherently on my Autocad 2014, and I tried to google the function, and I didn't find anything that would allow me to use "DGN BLOAT".

Where do I go to get it and install it into my AutoCAD?

Thanks!

Rex

"DGN bloat" is just a phrase I used to describe how unused and orphaned DGN linetype data can cause a dwg file to be come bloated.

As you've discovered, prior to AutoCAD2015, there was no built in tool to remove/purge that unnecessary data.  There is however a DGN Hotfix for AutoCAD2013 & AutoCAD2014 that when installed, will add a new command to AutoCAD.... DGNPURGE.

Follow the instructions in the README files to download and install the hotfix. -->  http://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/autocad/downloads/caas/downloads/content/autocad-C2-AE-dgn-hot...
