Switching between paper and model space very slow

Hi

One of my staff is experiencing slowness using Autocad 2014. Upon startup when opening a file from windows explorer Autocad hangs for a while with the following text in the status bar: "Merging external reference".

He also reports very slow performance switching between paper and model space tabs.

This is occuring for all Autocad files including very small files (1mb).

General computer usage is fast (web browsing, Microsoft Office, other auto cad programs). CPU: 12 cores, 16GB RAM

These issues aren't present for other staff.

To attempt to resolve I've cleared the temp files, checked UAC is disabled, disabled the antivirus.

Any ideas on how to improve performance?

Phil

Hello

Welcome to the Autodesk/AutoCAD Forums !

Just a few ideas :

1) Have you tested completely disconnected from Internet and from the Network with a few DWGs stored locally ?

2) Have you many "ACAD.lsp" files everywhere ?

3) Have you installed the SP1 for 2014 ?

4) Have you opened ALL your DWGs in RECOVER Mode, purged them and ReSave ...

5) Have you launched the Windows Task Manager to warn processes and see if one is using almost all CPU power ?

- try to clean your CAD drawing from dgn elements, either by purge and save command by using Autodesk AutoCAD 15 OR download DgnLsPurge.dll      file to help your Autocad version.

- or set SAVEFIDELITY = 0

Hello

+1 with imadhabash

Especially if you have imported DGN files or received DWGs (Main DWG or XREF DWG) related to MicroStation (.DGN) !?
