Segmenting a curve/polyline

I would like to segment a curve or polyline in segments with the same length. It is a very bendy curve, this means that the base-curve should only be used as an indication line for the tool to produce a closed polyline which consitist of the segments (But tries to follow the base-curve). Is this possible or should I use a different programme?
