Refedit freezing drawing

Whenever I try to use refedit (for a block, not even an actual xref) I cannot ever save the changes.  Drawing just freezes up, screen turns white and I have to force close the drawing (which has lead me to lose a lot of info today.... forgetting that it was a constant problem). 

Note:  This problem occurs in all drawings and all blocks that I try to use refedit with (just tested, and refedit WILL close if it is a very simple/new drawing)

Any advice?

I'm having the same problem but only if i have multiple xclip xrefs on a drawing. I tried changing the value of INDEXCTL to 0 and then 3, no luck. Set the PREVIEWFILTER to 63 to exclude all, still no luck. The solution for me is to unload the xrefs but why do i have to do that. I think AutoCAD has memory management problem.
