I may be asking for the impossible... i want to detach xref AND clean out those layers from a .dwg without opening the file.
For starters i renamed the xref folder (added a dash) so all of the xrefs are now unrefferenced. but the layers are still there that is not clean enough for the GC. any ideas...
so my real question is can i purge a dwg without opening it.
I don't know if this will work for what you need.
Actually all you should have to do is just unattach the reference after changing the folder name.
If you want to detach and without opening go into the reference manager. It will ask you if you want to detach when it no longer can find the file just like Autocad. Your layers a now no longer present.
thanks Patchy ill try this at home i am leary of using company computer downloading this.
thanks kcobabe detaching did help for opened files. I didn't know they disapeared I thought I had to purge.
