Objects in blocks missing

I have 2 drawings created by the same user that have objects that are coming up missing. the first file this user placed a bunch of dynamic blocks into a drawing and there is a mix of dyn blocks and regular blocks. When I opened the file the next day on another machine most of the blocks were missing except for the attributes that were in the dynamic blocks. If I click on the attribute I get the pull down to change the dynamic block to something else but the objects in the blocks still don't appear. I've been using these same blocks for about 4 years so I know there isn't anything wrong with the blocks.

Just the other day the same user made some changes to a few solid models in an existing drawing and now 1 of the solid objects won't appear in the drawing when I open it. If that user opens the file the object shows up but you can't select the object or manipulate it in anyway. Snaps to end points etc. don't exist as if the object isn't there.

At this point I'm narrowing it down to just this user but for the life of me can't figure out what could possibly be happening.

I've attached screen shots so you can see what I'm talking about. I can't attach the file because it's too large and it won't let me delete enough out of the file becaue the blocks aren't showing up to get the size down.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Post some files.  Also, what specific versions of the software are the two of you using?

Hi bmiller,

Thank you for posting the drawing link. I was able to restore the majority of the blocks (less the large cyan objects, cars?), by inserting the file into a new drawing as block, and checking the Explode option. This would seem to point to file corruption, but I am not sure why one specific user would be the "source" of that corruption. Please ask the user to test inserting with Explode checked, and see if the objects return.

I was not able to reproduce the disappearance, but you should look into following:

  • The file was version 2007 DWG. Is that intentional? If not, does that one user have the default Save As set to that in Options?
  • Do you experience the same if the file is saved to 2013 DWG?
  • Where is this user opening the file from? Is it in a network location where it might pass through some type of scanning program?
  • Have both user's open a copy of the same drawing with RECOVER. Does one come up with errors the other does not?
  • Compare the APPLOAD loaded applications list and startup suites between the two users. Does this user have anything "extra" loading?
  • Also compare the acad2014.slp and acad2014doc.lsp for anything different loading on this user's install
  • Test a different windows profile on that machine

Lastly, the entire install might just be damaged on that computer. Perform a full unisntall and clean reinstall. Make certain that no antivirus, antispyware, firewalls, etc. are running as they can drastically alter/damage the download and the install.
