in the past 24 hours people using AutoCAD 2011 and 2015 in my office have noticed the folling error.
When you double click on some Mtext, to edit it, there is a delay of about 4 seconds while _mtedit opens, then when you try to edit some text whin the editor you have to wait anothe 3 seconds to change any text.
HOWEVER, when you use DDEDIT, everything works as it should do without delay.
This has only been happening for the past couple of days. And it is across AutoCAD releases.
Could it be a windows issue?
I'm on Windows 7 Intel Xeon 3.5 with 16GB ram and a Solid state hand drive, Using AutoCAD 11 through 15 on a licence.

Does this happen every time, or only the first time in a session?
At first I was thinking it could be due to a large amount of fonts in your support file search path. We once had like 300 fonts and this same problem was happenning, but even then it only happened the first time you tried to edit mtext in a session. From them on, I suppose it was caching the list of fonts.
You could use Process Monitor to watch file/registry activity during the times when the delay is occuring, that may help you find the bottleneck.
If you need it, here is an overview of how to do that: Tracking down why that application is slow
