Mismatched Filename and Window name

I have seen this a few times and I usually close AutoCAD and restart it because this seems to be a warning that something has gone seriously wrong.

The full path an filename shown at the top of my AutoCAD window does not match the filename shown in the Window menu pulldown.

I am in single document mode (SDI=1) so there is only one drawing open.  I thought I had just opened the drawing shown in the Window menu pulldown but what is displayed is another drawing and its full path is displayed at the top of the AutoCAD window.

Any ideas?

P.S. Neither of these drawings is the one I had left to open a new drawing.

how many charactors are in that long path?  Then there's a path on the server you may not be seeing at your end of the drive mapping, is it possible the known and unknown charactor count has reached the limit?

Just a wild guess here.

In the image I've attached the full paths of both files are shown.  I'm not sure what you are asking/suggesting.

Hello

Please try to have path lengthes < 255 characters ! ... and if you can : smaller path names

And (more difficult) if you can : don't use any special characters into your path & file names ...

The same for multiple names (into DWGs) : layer, block, style, etc

Have you installed the SP 2 for CIVIL 2014  ?

The two paths involved (see the image in the OP) are 104 and 107 characters.

Also, there are no special characters in the paths (see the image in the OP).

I am using C3D 2014 sp2.

I really do appreciate any help but it would be much more helpful if you would read and understand the problem before suggesting things that such reading and understanding would eliminate outright.

Hello

Sorry, you are right ! ... I read your question/topic a little bit too quickly ...

But I have seen a "long" pathname (not very long in fact) and seen in your signature that you are using CIVIL 2014 SP1 ...

Your problem is strange :

Q1) Your server is running wich OS : Win 2003 / Win 2008 / Win 2012 , other software (NAS, Linux, etc) ?

Q2) Is the problem "limited" to the L: unit ?

Q3) Have you some other Autodesk software running ?

Q4) If Yes, is the problem limited to your CIVIL 2014 ?

The image you posted shows two paths on your L: drive.

So on your system, it appears as L:\ Vance County\<and so on>

In order to map a network drive to a drive letter, you have to enter it similar to \\<some location on network>\<possibly another subfolder on network>\ then you see the "Vance County" portion.

So in all, you have \\<some location on network>\<possibly another subfolder on network>\Vance County\.....

I believe all of that comes into play when considering max charactor limit for a path and filename.

edit, depending on what all touches the file (or what the file has to interact with), I'd consider only having a single period (".") within a file name and that is just before the file extension.  There are systems/programs and such that do not fair well when there is more than a single period within a file name.

as for what's displayed in your screenshot,

Do you have two separate files.

"Terry Lane Parcels.dwg" and "Terry Lane Base.dwg" ?

With a issue such as this, there isn't any known things to look for.  That's possibly why we are both focusing on the long file name as what could be going on.  So we're just trying to help.

I know folks are trying to help.  I argued with myself about whether to say anything about the path length and concluded that since Braudpat has earned the distinction of "Expert Elite" that a reminder to slow down could be helpful to us both.  It was intended to be a gentle reminder.  It was not my intention to rag on him.  It is so hard to convey a tone of voice and inflections that would support that statement using just text (especially for me).  I should not have mentioned it.

Thank you both for your help.

My Drive L: is mapped to \\LKC-NAS\Projects\

Both of the drawings exist.

I think it has something to do with SheetSets and changing SDI mode between 0 and 1 but I cannot remember if I did that about the time I saw this problem.

I have had some crashes related to opening/closing/switching SheetSets in close relation to changing SDI mode from 0 to 1.

P.S. I thought I logged in as my old coopdetat but I see that I posted as hencoop (my Autodesk account as an employee of LKC).  They are both the same person.

Hello from France

1) I am French and so my US/English is not "too bad" but it is not very fluent !

2) I would like to apologize if I slow down your Topic
and I agree that I have answered too fast/quickly !! especially when reading not the real length of the 2 pathnames ...

But I have just solved this kind of problem recently on 2 french sites : too long pathnames and filenames with many special characters !

3) So I hope that your problem will be solved ...

4) For your Info, I have already seen some strange things in term of pathname and/or filename on Linux/NAS Servers ...
Which sometimes has been solved by an update of the software ...
Sorry I am not at all a specialist of Linux and/or NAS software !

Best Regards, Patrice
