Linetype that will not purge

Having an issue with linetypes that are proprogating within all our drawings in our office...  I have tried to purge, delete all and wblock and nothing seems to work.  The only thing that I found to work is superpurge...

Junk is the drawing that I erased everything.  (junk drawing is 2.6M with nothing in it...)  click on this link to download... https://hsea.sharefile.com/d-s31594802f6f49e2a

I wblocked out wblock drawing and the size fell but the file still has all the linetype...

If I draw something in wblock and copy clip it to another drawing then I get all the extra linetype from wblock dwg...

Thanks for anything.

Jeff

I dont have an answer, but i get this issue any time i import something from a dgn. I have come to call them virus line types, because they spead without you knowing and you cant get rid of them.

Thanks,
Dave

Since you answered the question, what is the source of the file?

What vertical application is this from?

There are a boatload of non-graphical entities in this drawing.

I purged a handful of anonymous blocks (*A1175, *A1176., etc) with SuperPurge and afterwards the linetypes could be purged with the regular Purge command. So those linetypes must be referenced by these entities.

Here is a sample of the entities deleted when I hard-purged the anonymous blocks.

AcDbLSCompoundComponent (365)
AcDbLSDefinition (181)
AcDbLSPointComponent (519)
AcDbLSSymbolComponent (520)

Got it from a civil consultant.   My guess it is something that they either exported from Microstation or the original file was a Microstation file.

I will look into that.  It would be nice to be able to get ride of the items without going to an outside program.

You need an outside tool like SUPERPURGE to cure Microstation files: sorry, but that's what happens when MS converts to DWGs.
AFAIK there is no inside-AutoCAD perfect and easy fix.

Interesting. I opened it in Civil 3D and there are no styles/settings present.

I wonder if it was from another vertical?

I tried .AecObjExplode and it fails. ExportToAutoCAD doesn't clean it up either.

I wish DbView.Arx was available for 2013x64 - this was a tool that let you view the DWG in a non-graphical mode, and might shed some more light on this one...

This may sound stupid but, what is superpurge?

Thanks,

http://www.manusoft.com/software/superpurge.html

(I'm not affiliated with them or resell them or make any other claims, it's just a tool that's been around for a long time and does a better job than AutoCAD).

AutoCAD won't let you purge anything that is referenced.

SuperPurge will let you "hard" purge referenced objects by deleting the referenced objects at the same time.

I vouch for this program and its author 100%

if you have 2012 version installed then try the batch tool available from http://www.cadmanagertools.com to clean the linetypes,DGN linetype purge.PNG

DXFOUT - DXFIN works sometimes, but in your case

delete the ACAD_DGNLINESTYLECOMP extension dictionary using this lisp

http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/Visual-LISP-AutoLISP-and-General/Today-s-Giveaway-Purge-Dictionary-Ite...

and then purge the blocks

AutoCAD® DGN Clean-up Tool

This Hotfix cleans up non-essential data from DWG files that have become bloated while copying and pasting from DWGs containing DGN linetypes.

What a coincidence.

I wonder who jumped on this and why?

Seems to be a dead link today -- and not listed on the 'Updates and Service Packs' pages -- although Seardching for the term "DGN Clean-up Tool"  shows a link to those pages.

AutoCAD 2013 and 2014 compatible version is available now in http://www.cadmanagertools.com

It is completely free and give it a try and see whether it helps or not.

It looks like this tool was the product of Kean W.

Jimmy B from JTB World discovered a potential problem with it, so Kean pulled it.

He is working on it and says a new download will be available when it's done.

Recently we’ve received files from outside consultants that bring with them a multitude of line types that cannot be purged.  They come from exported DGN files.  Autodesk has posted a hot fix and apparently 2015 can purge them, however, I’m still using 2014 and have found the following works.

Open the drawing.

Click on the File Menu

Click on Export

Enter a new or temporary file name and select Block (*.dwg) from the "Files of type" pull-down.

Click on Save and when prompted "Enter name of existing block or [= (block=output file)/* (whole drawing)] <define new drawing>:" type an asterisk (*) for the whole drawing then press enter.

The program will save the new file.

Close the original file with the DGN line types and open the new file and check.  You will see that the unreferenced line types are gone.

"Save as" to the old file name to overwrite the old file.
