Layout name extraction by searching inside drawing name?

Can I get the list of layout name in list?

By default drawing has three layouts

  1. Model
  2. Layout 1
  3. Layout 2

We want these particulars in list?

It need arises

Because sometime we have to search drawing by layout name inside the drawing file.

So how can we find that (one name specified layout )in which drawing?

Simply  we want to search drawing by layout name in drawing directory.

Or is it any  method  for getting list of layouts name from particular drawing?

Hi,

you can start DesignCenter and select a drawing, so you get the list of layouts.

Is that what you are looking for?

You could also use odbx to write a program to go through a directory of drawings creating an association list of file names and their corresponding layouts. Once you find the layout name you want, return the filename and path to the user.  Odbx has some issues with file sharing that could cause some problems if other users may have drawings in the directory open, but there are ways of dealing with that.  I cannot do the program right now but if no one has posted a solution tomorrow I will see what I can do for you.

Searching a particular layout in a drawing using the method mentioned by Alfred is the easier and quicker one but  if you are looking for a solution finding from multiple drawings then you could try the below.

Download and install the free tool BatchInDatabase from Autodesk Exchange Apps.

1. Add the files to the batch process

2. you can double click any one of the drawing to see the layouts in that particular drawing

3. Add the command "Layout Name-Find & Repalce" , Enter the layout name you want to search in find filed and enter the same name in the Replace filed as well

4. Attach the command to all the drawings, the task here is to search the layout, so you can set "Do not Save" option in the Save status,

5. Run the batch and the drawings will be processed without opening them, so the processing time will be quicker

6. The batch status will let you know the message "Layout name already exist", if it finds the layout name in any of the drawing, here the situation is , the command is trying to replace the name of the layout, since the name is already exist, it rejects the replace command with the above said message.
