layers not in alphabetical order

I have recently been having issues with my layer manager and layer control. When I start a project, all the layers are in the correct order. If at any time I sort layers in layer manager (by color, plot style, etc.) and the sort back to “by name” they don’t go back to alphabetical order in the layer control. I think it is sorting the layers by the most recent layer??? Like if I create a new layer it drops it down to the bottom of the list…

Please help it is really REALLY annoying!

Thank you,

Colton

Just set MAXSORT to 32767 and you're done.

A little interesting history.]

In my  AutoCAD Notes, back in 2006, I made this entry:

"The limit is in the neighborhood of 55,000 plus/minus."

From AutoCAD Discussion Groups: Jason Piercey: Jun/13/06 - 20:19(GMT)-Autodesk Discussion Group Facilitator

I figured that since he was an Autodesk Discussion Group Facilitator, he might know.

I noted that number was considerably higher than the 32,767 maximum in MAXSORT.

I just checked AutoCAD HELP and found the following entry:

"NoteThe number of layers that you can create in a drawing and the number of objects that you can create on each layer are practically unlimited."

"Unlimited" sounds like a whole lot more than 32,767 or even 55,000.

Curious, but, I've definitely need to find some better way to spend my time.

Where did all those adds at the end of my posting come from?

Here's one of the many AutoCAD Jokes that I found on the Internet:

Many of us have never had to worry about MAXSORT, so we forget about it.

The joke is to set MAXSORT to 2.

WARNING:  To such extent as is not contraindicated by Office Policies, one shouldn't play jokes on Office Members on Office Time.

I believe this is the thread to which you are referring.  Using the same code I posted there, on a much more powerful machine today using 2013 and 2015, I can't even get it to make 40,000 layers. Strange...

I don't have time to mess with it any more, but I did manage to get 20,000+ layers created in 2013.
