Layers and underlays

Hi all

I can't figure out if underlays are part of a layer/connected to a specific layer or another thing altogether.

Please help?

Similar to a regular external reference (xref), but with differences.

See this:

Thanks, I have read that but it doesn't answer my question.

What I want to know is can I treat the underlay like any other drawing and move it around between layers and the like?

I by mistake drew on the same layer as my underlay (it looks like it is in the layer) and now I would like to move it to it's own layer. At first I thought the underlay should be a separate thing, like a base layer.

Yes, you can move the underlay to a different layer. Just select the underlay and use the properties pallet to change the layer.

Yes, just like any other entity.

I can't think of anything in AutoCAD that is "connected to a specific layer".

By connected i guess I mean in the layer as opposed to anindependant entity. Actually I had placed everything in layer '0' and could not edit it which is why I thought somehow that what I had done (add an underlay) somehow changed things. Then I read why and discovered it's a 'newbie' mistake. lol

I'm clear on it all now.

Dimension NODe entities for associative dims on Defpoints?

but as far as 'user usable' things, you're right.
