Layer Settings Change With XREF Updates

I've never had this problem before but something is causing the layer settings to change when we are updating XREF's that are already in our drawings.

As in layers that have been turned off and frozen, fully turning back on and layer colors will revert back to their original settings every time  the XREF is updated.

This appears to happen whether the layers are turned off in model space or using the layer manager to turn off the VP layers.

This also goes for changing the color of the layers too.

Do any of you have some ideas on why this would happen?

Is there a setting that can be changed that will prevent this?

Thanks for any and all input.

Look up VISRETAIN variable in HELP: it controls what your XREF layers do in your top file.

Thanks Pendean,

I don't even need to test it.

After reading the description I would have to say that the parent file for this project was set to 0 and not 1.

So then it was copied over to create all of the sheets involved.

Luckly it's only about 12 sheets/files at the moment.
