Keeping the locations of Xrefs when moving the main file

Hello all,

Does there any way that the main file will keep in "memory" the locations of it's Xrefs?

I moved the file to a different folder and I want it's Xref's to automaticly appear in it...

Thank you in advance,

If you put the xrefs in the same folder with the drawing it will find them. If you need to keep separate folders you can batch change the xref paths by going to Windows start button, All programs, Autodesk, AutoCAD, Reference manager.

With some minor exceptions....

  • Full paths allow you to move the parent and the child drawings will still be found.
  • Relative paths allow you to move both parent and child to a different location, as long as their location remains relative to each other (IOW, move both from one server to another, or from a server to a local drive).
  • If you use no path, then the child drawing needs to be in the same location as the parent.

Much more detail on the topic can be found here.

An alternative to the xref manager is the "Redir" command. (Before running it, use windows to browse to the new folder location and copy it to the clipboard) When prompted with "Replace "*" with:" paste it in.
