How to convert 2D DXF/ CAD designs to G-Codes

Hello,

I need to know can I convert 2D CAD design to G-Code directly from AUTOCAD 2013, do you have any additional plug-in I can use and get the corresponding G-Code for the CAD design. Please reply me.

You need some specialist software usually called CAM software to interpret AutoCAD's geometry, add machine instructions like tool numbers, tool speed, feedrates, toolpath on and off the job, incremental cut depths, and other machining aspects. I used EdgeCAM in a previous life but here are many products with vary levels of sophistication, ease of use, machine productivity parameters etc.

Could you please suggest me some free software that I can use. Since I tried a couple of software’s like ACE converter, CAMBAN, DXF2Gcode but none of them are working perfectly and some are giving some virus threatening. SO could you give me some free software name which is verified.

As you have found free software usually has limitations (as you might expect) as CAM software is not easy to write and goes to a limited, critical, demanding market. It usually has a significant training and support component/requirement as well. A users usually has to have a good understanding of machining processes, tooling etc. It is not a skill learnt in 5 mins. It is common to be able to download a limited time version of some software but in the CAM area the limit is often that it will not produce G & M code output, but you can learn the software and see the toolpaths on the screen. You might wish to contact your local polytechnic/training organisation or speak to an existing user who might as a gesture of goodwill or modest fee create the code for you. You also have to know the specific CNC machine and the type/model of controller fitted to it so that the code is compatible. Good CAM software is not inexpensive - typically a lot more expensive than say AutoCAD. You can download a demo/training version of EdgeCAM from www.edgecam.com. rgds

Yes I know as per you said I cannot get the full functions of NC code. since in all software its not giving me the turret number, feedrate and other variables like C etc. So I decided to go with some paid version :-(. I came to know two sites provide the NC code conversion for my machine. Since my machine is strippit SPM750r, edgecam and radan only supports our machine.

Also I wanted to point out that there is no demo version available in edgecam.com. please can you verify and tell me if possible can you give me a direct link since I am not seeing any software download in the site

If the two that you mentioned are the only two that support your machine, get one of those.  Seems pretty straight forward.

Sorry, you used to be able to download a student/trial version. What about contacting the local dealer - find it from the website via "contact us". EdgeCAM at least will support an infinite range of machines with a customisable post processor. If you machine is a punch, there is commonly a specialised version of software to do punching work. The machine supplier will provide some ideas or options, but you probably want to find a product that will read DXF files. rgds gd
