Hor & Vert Lines in Paper Space Vport When Layer Display Turned Off

Hi,

Sorry for the random sounding Subject.

I am using AutoCAD version 2015, although I believe I have seen this same problem in earlier versions of AutoCAD. This isn't a major problem, just an annoyance.

When I am in a layout tab, and I have a viewport created that allows me to display the 2D model space drawing that I have created, the viewport and the display of the model look fine. The problem is that once I lock the display/viewport and then turn off the layer on which I created the viewport, there is a distinct thick horizontal and thick vertical line that appear if I go back into model space while in the layout tab. If I go back to paper space, the two lines disappear.

I have attached a screen shot which shows the two lines.

When previewing a plot, the two lines are not included in the plot.

If I freeze the layer on which the viewport was created, rather than turning the layer off, the lines do not appear.

It's an annoyance, not a real problem. I'm just curious what is creating this anomaly.

Sorry if I haven't described this with the proper terminology. Hopefully the information makes sense.

Thanks,

Jeff

Hi Jeff,

Great description of a hard thing to explain. I have actually seen this before, and it is reproducible, particularly with locked, polygonal viewports on an Off layer. What you're seeing is a graphical "copy" of the locked viewport shape. If you are using a polygonal viewport you also don't want to Freeze it, or the boundary will not clip correctly.

The only workaround I can suggest at this time is to put the viewport on layer set to No Plot and leave it Thawed and On. Or, if you can ignore it, the graphic doesn't plot, so you could still work with the layer Off.

It's not a final solution, and we are aware of the issue, but hopefully this will get you by until it can be fully resolved.
