Hi, I own a student version of Autocad 2015.
I recentily purchased a new graphic card from Nvidia, the new gtx 970, but it looks like it is not supported in autocad, i can't enable hardware acceleration (my old gtx 480 worked).
Is it a Autocad problem (must be updated) or a my pc problem (maybe reinstalling windows could help)?
Hi,
>> but it looks like it is not supported in autocad, i can't enable hardware acceleration
Can you start command _GRAPHICSCONFIG, make a screenshot from that dialog and upload it? So we can see your settings of the graphiccard, included used adapter, driver, ...
I have a GTX780M currently and it works well, also with hardware acceleration activated.

(At the moment i have both graphic gards installed, as you can see from the screenshot below, and GTX970 is primary adapter.
Even if i use just a single card i have hardware acceleration grayed out so the multi gpu is not the problem)
Hi,
Well, I have the same driver installed, so I guess it's not the driver, but as you wrote you have two graphic cards installed I would try both graphic cards seperately.
The other option is you might try is to follow the advices in this article:
>>>How to make AutoCAD run with DirectX 9<<<
So maybe AutoCAD can use the DirectX9 or DirectX10 mode of your GC better than 11?
Good luck, - alfred -
Hello Giancarlo
Welcome to the Autodesk/AutoCAD Forums !
Ok Giancarlo (& Alfred) , you are running the same driver ! ... with the same NVidia GTX 970 ...
But an important question : are you exactly with the same Windows ? 32 or 64 bits ??
Patrice BRAUD
We do not have the same graphic card, he own a gtx 780m.
By the way the gtx 480 worked with hardware acceleration.
Maybe autodesk doesn't support gtx 9xx series at the moment because they have been commercialised few weeks ago, am i wrong?
Hello Giancralo
YES Sorry, I was a little bit focusing too much on the driver version ! ... Driver v9.18.13.4411 10/10/2014 , so the latest one !
- You say you have a GTX 970
- Alfred has a GTX 780M which is (I believe) a notebook version of the GTX Series 700 !?
- And now you speak about GTX 480 !?
Q1) The driver is the same version , but are you running on the same Windows ?
Q2) Have you installed the SP 1 for ACAD 2015 ?
Because some graphic problems have been corrected with the SP 1 ?
Please dot not install the SP 2 ...

Hi,
I'm running now on Windows 8.1, that might be a difference for DirectX11, that's why I referenced the article that shows how to set the environment variable to make AutoCAD working on DirectX9.

I will try to explain this as goog as i can:
Driver version is the same in all tests
Test1:
Hardware acceleration working
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Test2:
Hardware acceleration NOT working
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Test3:
Hardware acceleration NOT working
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
My question is:
Does anyone out there can enable HW Acceleration in a GTX 900 Series graphic card?
May it be an Autodesk related problem that have not updated their software to support newer graphics card?
Hi,
>> May it be an Autodesk related problem that have not updated their software to support newer graphics card?
Why do you think it's Autodesk?
AutoCAD uses the interface to a driver, it sends commands to the driver and get feedback from the driver. AutoCAD does not know what is behind the driver and especially AutoCAD does not control anything behind the driver directly ... and you already got your driver working.
Last time I ask that, promissed 😉 ==> have you tried my approach with DirectX9? Or is there any reason why you don't want to try that?

Hello
Thks for detailed Infos !
1) I would say that the problem is the GTX 970 !?
Because the latest driver (2014/10/10) seems OK with many other NVidia GTX Series ...
2) Please have you installed the SP 1 ?
3) Please have you tried DirectX9 as said hmsilva ?
Patrice BRAUD
As soon as i will be at home i will try dx9, if it wont work i will make a windows fresh install
Hi,
>> if it wont work i will make a windows fresh install
I would first try to install an older driver from nVidia, try there both options, default DirectX11 and the DirectX9, and if that does not work, a new Windows install might be the next (and I guess last) option.
BTW: have you asked in the nVidia forum too?

Hi,
welcome @forums.autodesk.com!
Your screenshot does not show me any problem (at least I don't find any).
Also your screenshot shows 3DStudio Max, while the thread here is about AutoCAD.

Hello
Welcome to the Autodesk / AutoCAD Forums !
Q1) You are running ACAD or 3DSMax or BOTH ?
If you are running ONLY 3DSMax , you have to post here :
http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/3ds-max/ct-p/area-c1
Q2) Which version exactly ? ... 2017 / 2016 / 2015 / 2014 ...
Q3) On which Windows ? ... Win 10 / 8.1 / 8.0 / 7 ...
Q4) The driver for your NVidia GTX 970 must (at minimum) dated from : Spring 2016 !?
