I'm IT Specialist for our location, our Facilities Engineer has the building design in Autodesk AutoCAD 2014.
I'm taking PDF outputs of the building sections with rooms and drawing my network maps using Visio 2013 as a layer above the "map".
I haven't worked with AutoCAD myself and has some basic questions on it's capabilites.
We have rooms numbers labeled in a layer. Can those "labels" be exported to a spreadsheet?
I know AutoCAD can measure room dimensions, is there a way to script or otherwise export that data and link it to the room label? Ie Room 101 is 240 sqaure feet, Room 102 is 350 square feet, can that data be sent to Excel to look like this:
Room 101 240
Room 102 350
The other thing I'm doing in Visio is shading rooms based on department, taking the "map" and drawing boxes around and applying a semi-transparent shade to the box. Does AutoCAD have tools toto create a layer that will allow basic fill of a room?
Thanks in advance.

Extracting the data is easy with the dataextration command, but linking the room labels to the rooms is the hard part in Vanilla AutoCAD. With AutoCAD MAP 3D it's a lot easier and also can set the color of the hatch based on the info you provide.
Thank you. I'll look through the online help documents for dataextration. That got me started in the direction I needed by providing the term I should be searching for.
