dual dimension spacing issue

When I do dual dimensioning with the dimensions one above the other they come in with a fairly large gap between them.  If I pick the dimension and click on the grip the gap reduces by about 1/2.   How can I get the dimensions to come in with the smaller gap without having to "click the grip" on each dimension?

Attached is an example... top dimension is the original...on the bottom after "clicking on the grip"

Thanks for any assistance.

Hi, you can change your offset from dim line in the dim style to reduce the gap.

that will reduce the gap from line to dimension text but the gap between the two lines of text is still larger initially that it is after clicking on the dimension. If you have to change the location of the dimension it will look different from other dimensions that haven't been. This creates an inconsistent looking drawing which is unacceptable. Pain in the a$$ having to "grip click" on every dimension to create consistency

Thanks.
