I am experiencing the following problem even before version 2013.
I have noticed that autocad can not open some drawings that have images attaced on.
The images are located on a local network hard drive which I have mapped.
From my laptop with the same version of autocad I can open the drawings and I have noticed that autocad have lost the link of the attached images.
Why is that happenig?

That's half of the info that's needed, you cannot means AutoCAD
What happens if you try to use _RECOVER or _RECOVERALL instead of open?
There are some threads here mentioning that XRef's are a problem to some drawings from previous AutoCAD releases, the drawing opens but the XRefs don't show up. May be it's similar to yours issue?

I double clik the file to open it and then Autocad is not responding.
I have to close it down using "Windows Task Manager"
From my laptop the drawing open but the images are not visible.
On the External References tab it say that the file is not found.
I have tried to dissable eset smart security firewall but still the same problem.
in order to get it work I detach the images, attach them again. save the file and open it from my desktop.
If I try the same day (after a few minutes) to open it again on my desktop it opens. After a few days the same problem again.

Makes me thinking that this is the same problem like XRef's have with 2013 (as long as the paths are correct).

What happens if you don't double-click the DWG, but start AutoCAD and start command _OPEN or do drag&drop from Windows-Explorer to the command-line of AutoCAD to get the DWG-file opened?
