dotted construction guide lines how to get them

Hi

I am using Autocad 2015  and  I wondering wnere i can find the tools to be able to plot points on my floor plan to see where cabintry would go, without drawing a solid line. I saw someone use a tool and a grid line came up that was continuous, you are able to rotate it and stuff so that its easier to plot points on where the stove and cabinets were going to go before commiting to the idea.

Does this look like what you're trying to find?  Grid (GRIDMODE)  It automatically aligns with the UCS
