dimensions jump to 0,0,0

Using AutoCAD 2010, dimensions setup for Architectural, modified dimensions using a prefix.  When I dimension a drawing, as I'm working in other areas I notice some of my dimensions are jumping to 0,0,0.  For instance if I dimension something at 5'-10" all of a sudden it might become 138'-5" depending on where the original dimension was put in relation to 0,0,0.  Does anyone know why this might be happening.

Are youa ctively snapping to the objects you are dimensioning, or are these floating dimensions (which is what you are describing)?
Paperspace or modelspace dimensioning?

I believe it will also do this if an Xref goes MIA as the dimension is reading to something in the XREF that no longer exist.  So it's attaching to the text string at the insertion point.  Of course this is assuming you have xrefs in said drawing.

No xref's are involved.

Are the dimension in Modelspace, or Paperspace?
