Crashes while orbiting in a viewport.

My autocad crashes sometimes when I try to orbit in a viewport.   Any suggestions?  AutoCAD 2013.   Some days, it's constant.  I obviously have stopped testing the situation.   he orbit wheel still works but I cannot do the shift, scroll wheel method.

Thanks,

This has been a bug in AutoCAD for as long as I can remember.  I couldn't tell you how many error reports I've sent in regarding this issue.  Autodesk knows it's a bug, but they either don't know how to fix it, or don't want to expend the resources to fix it.

I feel your pain.  I've gotten in the habit of always saving before moving a drawing in a viewport.  I very seldom need to spin into 3D mode, but the problem always arises for me by accident when I'm holding shift to drag a drawing orthagonally within a viewport.

Hi,

>> Any suggestions?

  • Upgrade (or downgrade) the driver for you gc (what gc do you have?)
  • Activate or disable hardware-acceleration (command _3DCONFIG ==> Manual Tune)
  • Try to use command _AUDIT as your drawings to verify they are free of problems.

I don't have it and I don't know it as a bug.

For me (for a lot of releases and different AutoCAD-based products) <SHIFT>-<WHEEL BUTTON> works and worked as designed.

Alfred:

I've noticed this across multiple computers, operating systems, and versions of AutoCAD.

It's a timing issue with the middle button and the shift key.  I figured it out at one point in one of the error logs I sent, but I can't recall the specifics now.

I too have had this crash whilst orbiting using 2012 not previous versions.  I have not had much of a play with 2013 as yet.  With 2012 in preparation of a project I set up named views of the areas I wanted to view regularly whilst modelling - This worked for me in the work that I am currently doing.
