Correcting improperly defined attributes

I recevied a drawing from a consultant. I dumbed it down to ACAD 2004 using DWG true convert to make it compatible with Land Desktop 2004. Not sure what version the originals are but I have ACAD 2013 if it can help with my problem.

The problem is it has call out leaders that consist of polyline outlines and the text is a stand alone block attribute. In other words the attributes are not included in any block. When I look at the properties of these attributes I find that the text value of the call out has been assigned to the tag name, not the attribute value. Thus each call out is an attribute with a unique tag name. I need to mask these call outs using the TEXT MASK express tool. The tool will not work on these attributes so I need to find a way to convert them to text. The explode command does not work on them. I also have Dotsoft ToolPac but it isn't able to convert them either, probably because it was not designed to handle attributes that have been defined this way.

I could really use some help to get this resolved by the end of the day (about 3 more hours).

I've attached a sample if anyone is willing to take this on.

TIA

Why use text mask? Select similar then place on different layer and freeze.

There is a lisp file which will convert the Attribute Definiton to Text, search the forum for the lisp file "AttDef2Text.lsp"

hope this will help

I need to show these text values, not hide them. I need to mask the background.

I found the tool and surprisingly it works in spite of the unorthodox attributes.

Thanks!

Glad to help and credits goes to the original author who created this lisp routine.
