Converting splines to polylines

Does anybody know of a program that will convert splines to polylines cleanly or has experienced the problem below?

We need polylines for waterjet cutting.

Using the polyline conversion in Autocad leaves us with highly complex jagged lines on the curves which crashes the waterjet machine.

We don't need a perfect conversion, just a very close smooth representation using arcs.

The main problem we have is with Sign Pro Flexi.

We use this program to convert clients spline artwork (usually supplied as EPS) to polylines

When we export to DXF to convert the splines to polylines, AutoCAD is unable to open the DXF and gives the error:

Table name missing on line 38.

Invalid or incomplete DXF input -- drawing discarded.

We don't know how to fix this. This problem didn't exist until we ungraded to a newer flexi program. The older one doesn't run on Windows 7.

I am running Flexi 8.0 v2

Hi,

Most probably cause should be a bad conversion to DXF in the generating software, so it's no an Autocad's fault. Try support from Flexi vendor.

We tried Flexi and they said, can you import into Flexi OK?

Which we can and they said, well that's all we can help you with. AutoCAD have to fix import problems.

What precision number did you use during the conversion?  Did you use pedit and Spline the pline after the conversion?

It doesn't seem to matter what precision we use, it still makes it really jagged.

Autodesk sets the DXF format. They decide what it is, everyone else has to correctly create them. Like Microsoft does with their files, like Adobe does with their files, like Microstation does with theirs and so on.

All programs, AutoCAD included, rely on their supported file formats to be perfect to open.
Thru normally can't fix those problem files.

AutoCAD is telling you that DXF file is broken.

Unless you want to open that DXF file in Windows Notepad, scroll down to where that line error exists and fix it manually (or tell us what it says, or post the DXF here) there is not much you can do about it if Flexi folks won't help.

So how would you like to proceed?

We fixed it by upgrading Sign Pro Flexi
