Hi All,
I've been working with (or trying to) AutoCAd 2015 since several weeks and I have to say I'm very dissapointed in the performance and stability.
Working on 3D objects creates lots of troubles because the program keeps on crashing.
An example is removing a void (created by subtracting before) from a 3D solid.
Apart from crashes and other disruptions everythings feels like heavy syrup, even after disabling all unneccesary "features"...
The dark interface is nice to work with I have to say, on the other hand: the new selectioneffect is like hell.
Setting the variable SELECTIONEFFECT to 0 renders the selection usable again.
Not sure which engineer came up with this brilliant idea... Try to select some cyan colored objects and you know what I mean...
I'm not sure why so much effort has been put into these graphical novelties while the program technically is going backwards every version?
I ditched 2013 and 2014 before (also way to slow) and will stop working with 2015 aswell since I'm not able to finish my word due to crashes and lost work. I'll switch back to 2012 (again!!) and wonder why I'm paying subscription anyway....
Sounds familiair to other users or am I the only one being frank here?
Best regards,
Stefan
This without mentioning that autocad had made a step backward when Inventor Fusion was removed. I doubt about the advantages of 2015 version compared to the 2013.
Hello
Please could you explain your problems/bugs/satisfactions/wishes/etc about the NEW SP 2 for ACAD 2015 on this Topic/Thread !
The "current" Topic/Thread is more for "General/Basic" ACAD 2015 (without or with the SP 1) ...
If you want "absolutely" to go on the "current" Topic (instead of the New Other relative to the SP 2), please indicate if you have installed the New SP 2 !

As in SHELL, the PGP defined external command? Wow, haven't thought about that in many years....
So paste this to the command line:
(startapp "notepad" (findfile "acad.pgp"))...does your PGP file open up? Does it contain the definition for SHELL?
after installing service pack 2 and wasting hours and hours tinkering and testing - (I'm a freelancer so this is all 0$/hr). I've reinstalled 2013 and I have to say it is so much faster and cleaner than 2015 and the shell comand works properly. I am trying to think of one thing that I can do in r2015 that i cannot do in '13. Somebody please tell me one thing I can do in '15 that I cannot do in '13.
between autocad'15 and this last release of max'15 I am so mad at AutoDesk it's giving me an ulcer. This is a decades old program - why dosen't it just fing work, with a few new workflow enhancements from time to time. Adobe does it. I don't spend 40 hours of non-billable every year trying to get Photoshop to do something that I have been using it for for 15 years.
Amen, brother! I'm as fed up as you are...being asked to pay subscription renewals for a product that (in my case) I won't see for 6 months. Then when it comes out it's a piece of garbage that I'd be ashamed to say I was a part of if I were an Autodesk employee but that comes from a guy who's been self-employed for 35 years and still believes quality means something. I mean, come on, how hard is it to make the icons look different? How can that process and any other "improvements" cause things that have worked for years to suddenly NOT work or become unstable. Who's minding the store over there?
I agree...2015 is very slow and the new graphics features are cute but useless for production. Autodesk has always spent too much time on looking better rather than being better.
Autodesk...if you are paying attention...this is a production software, not a toy to impress people looking over your shoulder...get on the ball.
I've installed the latest SP and still have serious lags & instability issues. I hope Autodesk rolls out 2016 with less fluff and more bones. We have 18 licenses on subscription...so we expect production quality software for that price & 20 year loyalty. However, dropping our subscription or shopping around may be job #1 for 2016, since there is no rational to paying for cute.

Being loyal to Autodesk as an experienced user (>20 years) proves to be a mere dissapointment over the years in my humble opinion.
It looks like the're mostly focussed on newbies these days instead of being loyal to their loyal paying customers I'd say.
I can follow this short-term vision partly: Focussing on newbies might create a new breed of (loyal?) customers for the future. I'm not entirely sure they keep in mind that the newbies are not today's dicisionmakers. The current dicisionmakers however might ditch their products for they are being violated by software which is not productive anymore.
In my book a newbie isn't able to change the software policy of a company....
Oh well, only time can tell...
In the meantime (being a decisionmaker) I'm very interested in exploring other possibilities and software for my daily needs....
They aren't focusing on newbies. can you imagine trying to train someone to use this rattletrap software? I work with a lot of different clients and, generally, when I ask anyone under 30 what software they use its Sketchup, Rhino, Solidworks. If I mention 3ds max or autocad, I get a polite eyroll, a cringe or a blank stare. I of course run circles around them, but still.
My biggest beef is they are marketing all these suites and there seems to be little emphaisis on interoperability between programs.
Oh yes, I can imagine trying to train the newbies, I've done this for years.
To be honest I've stopped teaching from AutoCAD 2008 but kept working with this rattletrap (this one I like!) software.
Your comment regarding the youngsters working with non-Autodesk software is truely spot on, that's why I think they are focussing on the newbies.
(and I admit: It's a thought, not a fact...)
Maybe the newbies can teach us how to use other software so we can implement this in our companies. How 'bout that for an idea?
I've been doing this model in AutoCad render in Viz, I mean Max thing for 15 years now. It's no small thing to put down something that I've been mushing my brain against, sometimes literally, for so long. I've spent a lot of time looking at Sketchup and Cinema 4D, and I might be more productive with those products, however It would be a lot of work, and time for me to make the transition to a whole other universe. Which brings me to the core of my frustration. Aside from the many thousands of dollars I've paid for the privilege of being an Autodesk customer for these many years, (and it is around 15K I think, more than I spent on two college degrees - state schools). The thing that burns me is that I am even thinking about using different software, it feels like a sort of betrayal. It's like if I played the piano my whole life and then the piano got so crappy I had to start playing a saxophone or something.
Having said that, it is my bread and butter - Still working on R2013 though I've paid for and installed '14 and '15.
Hi Ed,
I second that! Same situation here I can tell you...
We've been paying subscription for many years to become unvalued customers somehow.
For rendering my visuals I've allready switched to other software, the next step will be the engeneering part. Solidworks might work.
For as far as our bread and butter is concerned: I'm still working with AutoCAD 2012 to get some performance (or at least, it looks like that...)
By the way: Maybe you're a star playing the saxophone, why not give it a go?
