AutoCAD 2014LT Freezes When Double Click Editing ANY Object, Especially TEXT

First, MY specs.

Processor: AMD A6-5400K APU (with Radeon HD Graphics) - 3.60 GHz

RAM: 8.00 GB

System: 64-bit

OS: Windows 8

Version: AutoCAD 2004 LT

Second, what we do.

Commercial MEP design. Project in mention is a 65,000 sq.ft. Italian food market.

Third, the problem.

I am experiencing a selection and double click editing problem with AutoCAD 2012LT & AutoCAD 2014LT. On Friday, June 28th we recieved updated (not new) backgrounds from a lighting designer for two floors of the building whose MEP system we are engineering. The second floor had no problems really; we reset some annotation scales and the updated backgrounds plugged right in. The first floor, however, was so messed up that we copied and pasted the track lights and all else into our file directly (vs. xref'ing) and instantly, after a save, it is impossible to evoke any kind of edit with double click. In order for us to modify anything, we have to type the command before editing. So if I want to DDEDIT, I have to type that in before changing the text. If I do select the text first than CAD freezes, takes a huge dump, wipes for 5 minutes, and then the text editor appears. This problem is ubiquitous with all 2012 LT machines and up. AutoCAD 2005 LT has no problem (lmfao).

Attached screen shot of Task Manager if it helps.

If the problem is limited to a single file, there is no 'program' fix for it: try fixing the file by running AUDIT or RECOVER, then QSAVE, dfollowed by WBLOCK out the content you want to save, then INSERT the resulting file into a working no-issues template file.

Or ask the file creator to resend a properly working trouble-free file, similar to the other ones they sent you.

Nothings working yet. I even disabled all double click actions (in "Options" and the CUI). I have been working all morning and only got about 15 minutes of real work done and I've been working for 4 hours. CAD keeps holding up indefinitely if I double click anything, especially TEXT.

We really need a solution. We have copied everything out, renamed, reblocked, done everything but neither First Floor or Second Floor are operable now.

There is no system or program fix for a sketchy file: if you want to share it here someone can try and replicate your issues and see if there is a solution.

Okay, that sucks I wish there was a diagnostic program, at least to tell you if it's your drawing or a 3rd party's.

I have 2014 Full version and Im having the same issue. Everytime I select a text or dimention, Autocad freezes for at least 3 to 4 minutes then its selected. I am working with brand new files I created from scratch. The situation always start after Im working on the file for a few days.

Please Help, Anyone.....

SAME THING!!  I have created my own blocks with text within them.  When I double-click on the block it SHOULD open a text edit window.  But after the MAC update 2 months ago, every time I double-click on the block, AutoCAD freezes and I have to restart AutoCAD and I lose my changes.

The only fix is to explode those blocks that contain text.  Then simply use them as multiple parts and pieces.  NOT a good use of my time!

This problem is NOT a drawing file issue, it has to do with AutoCAD itself.  I'll get this issue if I go to the Dimension Style Manager, then create a new style, and once I hit CLOSE, AutoCAD freezes!!

Unfortunately it's not a new problem- we've been dealing with this cr@p since 2010.  Not only does double-clicking an object lead to an apphang, editing a block and then trying to close the block editor is a coin toss as to whether the program will hang and lose your work.

Filed countless crash reports over several versions, still losing work every day...

Thanks so much for responding to my post.  This mess starting happening for me once I upgraded my Mac to the latest OS about 2-3 months ago.  This is an unreal mess!!

When I purchased AutoCAD 2013 for Mac, it was inundated iwth issues.  I ended up writing Carl Bass, the President of Autodesk.  He promptly turned me over to customer service and I spent 3 hours on a confernce call where they were watching me work and I explained all of the problems to them as well as the programmers.  They fixed a few things, but MANY issues are left.  I am now writing the customer support again...I'll let you know what I find out.

The amount of hours I've lost due to this issue is ridiculous!!  And nobody is paying attention!!  SAD!!

I have had the same probelm since I switched to AutoCad Mac. I am close to throwing the program and MAC into the nearest river. The fact that AutoCAD can sell a program with such a blatant design flaw - and do nothing about it -- is incomprehensible.

Hey Ichaia 520!

I worked directly with Autodesk to get this resolved and they aren't doing anything to fix that problem.  They won't update any older versions of AutoCAD anymore!!  The ONLY way to take care of this is to upgrade to AutoCAD 2015.  I decided to purchase the upgrade as well as the the annual subscription.  The $180 annual subscription will get you free upgrades from this point on.  Autodesk has been very supportive once I did that.

I hate to say this, but switching to Mac was a HUGE mistake for me.  After using AutoCAD for Mac for 3 years and running into constant issues, I decided two weeks ago I switched back to PC.  It's taking me a while to get used to the differences, but I'm VERY happy I switched back.

Let me know if you have any questions.....I've run into ALL issues with Autocad.

Later,

Bob

large images? referenced images? That's common, no real fix unless you want to avoid selecting the image by mistake.

It's small 600kb image inserted in drawing. Today everything is OK, no freezing :/. Maybe just needed to restart PC. I'm working with 2015 few days, before worked on 2010 acad architectural.

Sadly, restarting Windows is often the cure for many weird glitches.

Hey Eriks!

I haven't had any issues with images in the 2015 version.  How old is your computer (PC or MAC)?  How much ram do you have?

Try this.....type IMAGEQUALITY and set it to "DRAFT".  See if that helps.  Also, I alwys put images on a separate layer when possible so I'm not bogging down my computer when they're not needed.

Good luck!

I have found that if you close the layer and properties dialog boxes (that float in a bar on the left), that works and helps EVERYTHING!

Hi @rombali50

The change from 2013 to 2015 isn't to challenging.

There will be a few difference with the interface but AutoCAD LT 2015.(recommended read: AutoCAD Classic workspace is not available in AutoCAD 2015 and later versions).

When you make the move to 2015 and run into issue create your own thread and I'd be happy to try best to help. 🙂
