AutoCAD 2014 Zoom issues

This problem started a few weeks ago, randomly and without any common operations my zoom starts acting up. When I just zoom forward or backward  one click the zoom keeps on zooming even though I have stopped rolling the wheel. Usually after I click save or open a new file it goes back to normal. Sometimes I have to close the file all together to get it to stop. It happens almost every day now and I cant relate it to a common file.

Did you change your mouse or mouse driver "a few weeks ago"?
What is the roller wheel set to in your mouse driver?
What is your mouse driver and it's version?

I am using a logitech Performance MX mouse, but I have been having the same issue on my home computer with a different mouse.

What is the scroll wheel set to in the mouse driver?

I have Windows handling my 10-year-old mouse and I can't get AutoCAD to free-wheel zoom as you describe since that's not a program feature or ability.

Do any of your other programs scroll out of control when you do the same thing? just ensure you have a long document or webpage open before trying it.

Hello again sorry to wait so long to reply  , I thought I solved the issue by updating my mouse driver software, but it just happened now in one of my drawings. I thought it might be file related but this is a new file. The zoom problem lasted for about 5 minutes and then after switching back and forth from other drawings it suddenly stopped. And no this zoom problem only happens with AutoCad.

Hi neo5869,

I'm experiencing the same issue in ACAD 2015 with the same mouse manufacturer (if it is mouse related???). The only thing that works for me is closing and reopening the drawing.

Regards!

Hello, I am checking to see if you have a solution to this issue? I see another user has posted that they have the same problem.

I would start by answering pendean's previously posted questions so we can get a better idea of your situation.  We can't see what you see and need as much information from you as possible to attempt to determine a cause for your problem.

1) What is the roller wheel set to in your mouse driver?
2) What is your mouse driver and it's version?

I would also add:
3) What version of the SetPoint software are you running?
4) You mentioned you were having the same problem with your mouse at home.  Is your mouse at home also Logitech?

My scroll wheel and mouse settings are all default except I did up the pointer speed justa tad, and of course my programable buttons are changed. My control center version is 6.65.62, and Driver version is 5.80.4. Mouse driver is Logitech HID-compliant Unifying Mouse. And my mouse at home is a wired mouse, but not sure of the brand.

You need to change the default middle button setting in SetPoint to Other → Select Function → Middle Button (as shown in the pic I posted above).  The default Logitech settings are not ideal for AutoCAD.

If that's not the issue, I notice you're running a newer SetPoint and driver version than me.  It's possible this software was updated automatically and the newer version of the software has a bug.  It wouldn't be the first time Logitech's software has had problems working correctly.

Finally, on rare occasion, I find that I need to end the SetPoint.exe task in Windows Task Manager and restart it to alleviate problems.

Your wired mouse could still be a Logitech mouse running the same software, which would explain why you're seeing the problem on both computers.

OK well Ive changed the middle button, and I had the issue long before I updated the software. I wil see if anything changes. The weird thing is that I have had this mouse for over 3 years with no issue until the last couple of months. And being two different mice by the same manufacturer on two different machines suggests that it is an AutoCAD issue since I am running different versions ofsetpoint on my two machines. The only common thread is AutoCAD. I am just ammazed that for such a widely used, exspensive program that it is so buggy. Well I guess we are stuck with it.

To be sure, AutoCAD is loaded with far more bugs than it should have.  However, your argument applies equally to Logitech as it does AutoCAD.

I wouldn't be so quick to rule out Logitech in this instance.  As I mentioned before, I've had issues with the SetPoint software in the past.  You could test this theory by uninstalling your SetPoint software and just use your mouse with a standard Windows driver to see if the problem still persists.  My guess is that it will work as intended after the SetPoint software has been removed.

Your Logitech settings are stored in an .xml file.  I've had a corrupted .xml file before and had to redo my settings.  I now save a copy of it so I don't have to redo it after it inevitably becomes corrupted again.  I'd be happy to share the version of SetPoint I'm using with you if you want it.

Well after updating my set point settings it went for two days until the
zoom issue started again, I then uninstalled setpoint and it happened
again, so I have ruled out the mouse. It must be a bug with AutoCAD 2014,
its sad that such a widely used program has so many bugs.

So I guess no answer to any of this?

No, I'm out of ideas.  I never experienced the issue you describe in 2014 (or any other version).  If you're on subscription, you could log into the Autodesk Subscription Center and create a support ticket to see if Autodesk can help any.
