3d face to smoth surface?

So a friend of mine sent me a project from 3ds max (saved as a .dwg)  of a muscled person, but when I opened it in AutoCAD 2014 it was all 3dfaces, with no smooth surface (all triangles and edges).  Is there a way to make all the edges smooth?  I have already tried the smooth commands with mesh tools to no avail. any Ideas?

And I already worked with it a little, so I don't want him to redo/resave it then me work on it again.  is there anything I can do?

Select everything.

Use convtosurface command to convert all the faces to surfaces. (beware- the faces won't dissappear yet; you have to remove them yourself)

Use Union-command on all the surfaces to join them together.

If you try to smooth it now Autocad will convert it to a mesh.

This definitely works for a simple double curved surface, no idea what the result will be for a complex 3d model. I imagine it will try to smooth out things that aren't supposed to be smoothed so you'll probablt have a lot of work performing this process on different parts of the model.

Good luck!
