I have an autocad drawing that I can convert to STL file, but there is no image when I open the file on ABviewer 9. I am not sure the drawing is correct. Please see the attached dwg. Thanks

Hi,

>> but there is no image when I open the file on ABviewer 9

You know that 36 of the 38 objects are just extruded lines and no solids?

The command line tells me after selecting all objects in your drawing for exporting:

     Select solids or watertight meshes:
Selected objects must be solids or watertight meshes.
36 objects removed from the selection set.

I guess that's the answer

Thank you Alfred. How do I convert these lines to solids? I tried using CONVTOSOLID and it's not working. CONVTOSURFACE is working, but the drawing isn't converting to STL.

I am new to 3D drawing. Please let me know what I need to do.

Hi,

lines are just 1-axis objects, if they are extruded, they have 2 axis (like a plane), to create solids you need 3 dimensions of an object (length/width/height). So you have to reconstruct it from scratch. But as it's prepared quite good it's just minutes.

Reset the lines to 0 thicknes. use _PEDIT to connect these lines together and close it to a polygon, then use command _EXTRUDE and you have a solid. That's the global workflow, you have then to do the similar steps for the part in the middle of your part.

Good luck, happy 3D, - alfred -

Yes. Your dwg is what I was trying to do. How did you fix the dwg/cut the holes? I tried using PRESSPULL to cut the holes and it was not working.

New issue: I can create the STL file, but when I try viewing it on ABViewer 9, there is no image. Once again thank you for all the help. The PEDIT & EXTRUDE worked great.

Hi,

I have tested the STL exported from AutoCAD (find attached), I can import it in other software and it looks ok.

If my file also does not show up in your viewer then .... :smileywink:

>> How did you fix the dwg/cut the holes?

Modifying UCS, then recreating the outline of the holes, extrude this and use command _SUBTRACT to get it out from the main object.

Your file is not showing on my viewer. My viewer has issues then. What software are you using to view the image?

Hi,

Will not help you as I don't have a viewer for that, I tried it with Inventor Fusion and with 3DS Max

I think Alfred is trying to say your chosen viewer is the problem: perhaps is can't read the STL file version created by AutoCAD.
Try another application or viewer.
