2015 Sheet Set Publisher Error

I've encountered a probable bug with the Publish Dialog Box, which I invoke from the Sheet Set Manager by right-clicking on a sub-set name.  The problem that I am experiencing occurs when I publish to a DWF file, and then later try to overwrite that file.  The Publisher refuses to overwrite an existing file because it reports that "... the file is in use by another user or program ...."  This error message box appears when the dialog box opens for me to select a folder and file name.  If I click on an existing file, the message appears.

How do I know that this is definitely a bug?  Because when i right-click on the file name in the dialog box, I am able to delete the file, which should not occur if the file were actually in use by another user or program.  That, BTW, is my work around to this issue.

Yes, I have unchecked the "Open In Viewer" box, which doesn't seem to work.  For example, if I Publish multiple sheets to separate PDF files by using the page setup that is in each drawing's layout, I don't want dozens of PDF files to open at once.   The default setting should be unchecked, because it created a problem known as crash the first itme I used 2015 and about 60 PDF files all opened at once.  But, even if I uncheck the box the last PDF file created will still be acutomatically opened, anyway.  Possible bug there, too.

Hope this helps.

Hello,

Can you please check the permissions on the location you are trying to overwrite to? Or, after creating the initial DWF, check the Security settings applied to that file.  AutoCAD 2015 does allow you to overwrite files, but I was only able to reproduce the error you are getting by changing my account's special permissions. For example, Windows will allow me to set Read and Delete access, but deny other Write or Append permissions. I tested and I was able to create the first DWF and delete it, but not overwrite it.

Thanks for your reply.  I am saving to a file server that we have been using with AutoCad 2008 since 2008.  We were recently given upgraded workstations with new licenses for 2015.  It is possible that our IT department modified something in regards to the new machine.  They have done things in the past in attempts to monitor people's activities..  But if it were a file permission issue then I would expect a file permission error such as "access denied." It could be a permission with the application itself, because I am able to delete the file from the  dialog box that opens in AutoCad, as shown in attached picture.

I will try to confirm your suspicisions and get back to you when I can.  Once again, thanks for your reply.

The quote is from my original post.  That problem can definitely be reproduced.  We configure our layouts to use the "DWG to PDF.pc3" plotter.  We plot separate files to a selected folder.  As I noted, the first time I used 2015 I had a few dozen PDF files open at the conclusion of the plotting cycle, which is what caused me to notice the check box to open the files in a viewer.  The default setting is "checked", which is not a good thing.  The checkbox is in the lower right quandrant of the dialog window.

If I uncheck the box, then I would expect that no files would be opened in a viewer.  It seems that the final PDF that gets generated is always opened when the box is unchecked.  Check it out.  Hope this helps.

Hello,

When you publish are you picking a page setup that is using a PDF driver? Or are you selecting Publish to: PDF in the upper left corner? If you are using a page setup the pc3 you are selecting may have an Open in Viewer setting selected (see attached image). However, using DWGtoPDF.pc3 I was not able to reproduce this behavior either. The setting in the Publish dialog being unchecked, overruled the pc3 setting.

Which driver are you using?  If you are using the DWGtoPDF.pc3, could it be an older version? For example, if you access pc3 files from a network location, are those files updated with the new installs?

Thanks for that suggestion.  That seemed to fix the "open in viewer " issue.  I am using whatever was installed with 2015  I checked it out, and sure enough, there it was.  I choose "plotter named in page setup", which is the PDF.pc3 file.  I have never gone into the pc3 files before.  Had no reason to do so.

I think having the the default setting of open in a viewer is a mistake. As I have noted, it caught me completely unawares when I suddenly had 60+ PDF files all open at once.  This is especially problematic when use the Publish Dialog because the setting is hidden from view by default.  See attached image.  One must expand the window to even know such an option exists.  Like I said before, we had been using 2008 and have just upgraded.

I have still not yet heard back from by IT Department to verify the permissions settings for users and their applications.
