2015 - Changing work windows

2015 appears to have introduced the New Tab feature in the Window Drop menu.  There are tabs (if not disabled) that you can use to change to a different drawing currently opened, and of course the old menu drop down menu (if turned on).  Another old trick is to use the CTRL+TAB buttons to quickly change to the next open file.  Unfortunely Cad is now treating the "New Tab" feature as an actual file and is being brought to front/active if you use this CTRL+TAB option to switch windows.  I don't suppose there's a way to disable this intended "time saving" new feature so that it'll only scroll through open files and not to the startup/new drawing screen?

Hi,

>> the "New Tab" feature as an actual file and is being brought to front/active if you use this CTRL+TAB option to switch windows

Not for me, if I have 2 drawings open + the "New Tab" window, I never get the "New Tab" window activated when pressing <CTRL><TAB> multiple times. It only changes between DWG1 and DWG2 and back to DWG1 and so on.

Brings me to the idea that you might not have the latest update installed? >>>click<<<

I was hoping you were correct, but no, I'm up to date, even have automatic updates turned on in my product manager.

Still, if it's not doing this for you then that means there is indeed some setting to prevent this...  which is good.  The big question now is, what is that system variable?

Hi,

I have checked my AutoCAD, your screenshot shows that you have AutoCAD Mechanical, that might be a difference and worth to be searched or asked in the forum for Mechanical >>>there<<<.

Another difference might be if you have plugins/applicatins running on top of AutoCAD and maybe the operating system (mine is currently Win 8.1).

Good luck, - alfred -

For this function, New Tab, ACAD and ACM is same.

If this function does not work, could you check NEWTABMODE (System Variable)is 1 or other options as your required.

0 Closes all existing new tabs and disables the display of the New Tab on next launch.
1 Opens a New Tab.
2 Opens a new drawing based on the specified default drawing template file. If none is specified, it displays the Select Template dialog box.

If it does not work well, please go to the link of reset settings to default to check issue solved.

That was it, setting NEWTABMODE to 0 took care of this.  Thanks
