undo error message

I got an error yesterday that said "Warning! Undo has been disabled in order to prevent undo file overflow. You may re-enable it via the undo command. The undo file length was 1755723136 bytes." And sure enough, Undo was disabled after that. Has anyone else come across this and do you know how to prevent it? Thank you.
