Overlay Xrefs change path type

I set up drawings with xref overlays set with a relative path.

I start working on my drawing, however, since many people are working on the project the xref change while I am editing my drawings.  If this happens and I do not reload the xref while in the current editing secession and save and close my drawing (without reloading changed xrefs) then the next time I open the drawing the xref paths in my drawing becomes full path instead of the relative which I had originally set.

Are your xref files and the drawing files located on the same drive?

Are they located in the same folder?

Hi Leothebuilder,

Thanks for your reply. The files are all on the same local drive but not in
the same folder.they are either 1 or 2 folders up or 1 folder down.

Shiraz

Hi Shiraz,

I tried to reproduce this issue from scratch, but it doesn't seem to happen here on my system. Is this happening to all of your files, or only certain ones?

Have you checked for file corruption?

Are the files in a format other than the 2013 file format?

Do you have all service packs and hotfixes installed?

Are you using Sheet Set Manager?

If a lot of people are working on these drawings are you sure they are on a local drive?

Seems to me they are propably on a networked drive.

If some files are on your local drive and others on a network drive, relative path xrefs are not possible.

As long as they reside on the same drive, relative xrefs will work and should not change to full path by themselves.

Hi VStudley

Is this happening to all of your files, or only certain ones? - All files.

Have you checked for file corruption
cles/sfdcarticles/AutoCAD-File-Corruption.html> ? _No since it is happening
to all my files.

Are the files in a format other than the 2013 file format? - Yes, and we are
working with all new autocad LT 2015 installation

Do you have all service packs and hotfixes installed? - Yes, all service
packs. No hotfixes.

Are you using Sheet Set Manager? No

Thanks for your reply.

All files are local on everyone's computers. This is because we use Dropbox
on all computers and not a network server.

I am trying a few things and will let you know if anything new comes up.

Is everyone working from their own DROPBOX drive? That's probably your issue, dropbox is not a good server platform to work from with AutoCAD, every one of you is probably "fixing" paths as you open files because of this issue. Full pathing is probably the cure after you all reset your Dropbox drives to be identical letters etc.

Dropbox works fine with all your other programs because those other programs don't have xrefs.

Thanks pendean.

No one is fixing paths as everyone in the office has their Dropbox set as
D:\Dropbox and the folder structure inside is identical for everyone because
it is the same Dropbox account on all computers. I am testing this
internally again and if anything changes I will write back.

Hi Shiraz,

This may be an unsupported configuration, since Autodesk products require a Microsoft network/environment to function properly.

You may want to determine what type of network environment you're introducing into the equation by using the Dropbox service.
