driver_power_state_failure

Please, I hope somebody can help me, I have a mayor problem: I just bought a new laptop, Toshiba Satellite P50C179, 8Gb RAM, 4Gb video, NVIDIA Gforce GTX 950M, intel CORE i7 6700, using Windows 10 home. It's not possible to work with Autocad, because every one or two minutes appears BSOD, showing driver_power_state_faillure. I already installed the autocad 2016 SP1 but that didn't solve the problem

I changed the computer for a new one (same trademark and model), asuming it was a hardware problem, but the new computer has exactly the same faillure.

Toshiba and Microsoft anwered that it's a software problem so that's why I write this email.

Best regards,

Hi,

>> every one or two minutes appears BSOD

First verify you really got another laptop (verify the serial numbers)

Then: BSOD means today your hardware is defect or the drivers, which build the connection between operating system and hardware have defects.

If you used the same drivers then it might be possible, that you got another laptop, but the same drivers make the culprit.

Or you (or some "optimization" tools) created some invalid settings (Bad story: I saw a tool at one of my customers "make your system silent" ... it wanted to reduce the noise by turning off the CPU-fan and when the processor get's too hot it reduces it's clock rate ... well, the fan-speed was reduced, but the cpu overheated and did the emergency stop/turned off). And sorry, there are such tools out there.

So when you install Windows, then do a clean install and

  • do not install vendor specific tools/software
  • even it there are not the best drivers for CPU, network ... let it be for now and see if it again crashes after a few minutes.
  • and then, with every driver installation make the test again, so you do know which driver/tool/software makes your system crashing.

Hi,

Im getting the same problem,

Got an:

PC Specialist Optimus VII V17-960 Gaming Laptop, Intel Core i7-6700HQ 2.60GHz 8GB RAM, 2TB HDD, 17.3" LED, DVDRW, NVIDIA GTX 960M, WIFI, Webcam, Bluetooth, Windows 10 Home 64bit

I have been in contact with PC specialist, microsoft and nvidia and they have all done viggious tests on the laptop and have said that it is an autocad issue with the GTX 650M and that I should ask if there is a work around.

It must me something to do with that driver and graphics card as I uninstalled nvidia and autocad worked fine using the intel graphics. Then I re-installed the nvidia driver and same thing. Just brought the laptop, done benchmark tests on it and all came back positive.

Any help from would be wonderfull,

Jack

I'm having the same issue, which is very annoying.

In this topic: https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/inventor-general-discussion/inventor-2016-crash-on-windows-10/td-p/58...

It seemds to be that either windows 10 or Autodesk isn't ready. There is a workaround posted. It seems it has something to do .NET Framework 4.6.

Note: The BSOD started only about a month ago. Before that i worked with Inventor 2016 flawlessly from september 2015.

My laptop is an ASUS with an i7-4720 2.6GHz, 8GB of RAM, 64 bit OS and a Nvidea Geforce 940M.

BSOD only happens with inventor, not with any other applications like Steam or other games.

I have reinstalled all my drivers, but not yet windows 10.

I'm dying for an awnser, because I need it for my study.

I had to send back my computer to the shop.
In my case, Toshiba didnt want to know anything, they only say that is not a problem with the computer. Windows made some test, and they didnt find anything wrong.
And autocad, it is imposible to talk with them.
And I need the computer for work, so, the only solution i found was to buy another brand, like Lenovo, with another grafic card.
I am sure that the problem is between Nvidia and Autocad, but I couldnt wait for a solution.
Sorry, I can not help you

I am agree with you, it is a problem with Nvidia GeForce and Autocad. And while they dont try to arrange this, probably there isnt nothing to do.
I hope you have more luck than me.
Good luck

I maybe found a work around which brings down performance but at least makes it workable.

In options > Hardware  and select the option where ther's no hardware used (It's the bottom one, I can't remember the name right now, on different pc.)

Furthermore over here:

https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/inventor-products/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcartic...

There is a list how you can manage video settings.

For the first time in a month I've been able to run inventor over 1 hour without any crashes or BSOD. I hope this helps.

Note: Maybe this helps too:

Good luck everyone.

Is the driver you are using from Autodesk? Or Nvidia?

Use drivers certified by Autodesk, Just because Nvidia has newer drivers does not make them better.

Hi,

>> Is the driver you are using from Autodesk? Or Nvidia?

Autodesk does not provide any hardware specific drivers, only the software-emulation one is from Autodesk.

I have drivers from Nvidea. I'm not sure if drivers are supplied by Autodesk, like Alfred.NEWSABDA says.

I'll keep this forum posted by notifying if anything goes wrong/right working the way I do (software graphics.).

I have worked all day without a hitch! Problem seems to be, as I previously mentioned, a conflict between Nvidea driver/videocard and Inventor.

For the record: use software graphics (Inventor logo top left > options > Hardware > Software graphics. I've also set the graphics to conservative for improved performance.)

My performance dips sometimes in fps, but other times it don't. But hey, at least I can work now all day long without that damned BSOD.

Hope this helps anyone, I've been pulling my hair out because of this.

I just bought a Toshiba with similar specs and was having the same issue. I actually ended up going to Nvidia's website and downloading the new driver off of their site for my specific GPU. I did a clean install and now it seems to be compatible.

I haven't tried to do much yet, I'll keep you posted if it stays fixed or not! Anyway the link is below:

I have the same problem. I bought a Toshiba s55t-c5168-4k. It is a powerful laptop with NVIDIA 950M. I can use autocad 2016 during some few minutes, until may laptop crashes and shows a blue screan with the error "driver_power_state_failure".

I need Autocad and it is very disturbing it doesn t work in my laptop. I installed also dwg trueview from Autodesk, just to be able of watching autocad files, but my laptop crashes too, with the same error.

What can i do?

Hi,

>> may laptop crashes and shows a blue screan

Blue screen nowadays means your system has troubles with hardware and/or drivers, it's not a problem of AutoCAD itself.
