AutoCad 2017 slow?

Hi!

Recently upgraded from AutoCad 2016 to 2017.

My impression is that 2017 is way slower and more laggy than 2016.

Same happens for my other 2 colleagues running 2017.

Running Win7 Pro, SP1, 64 bit.

Intel Core i7-3740QM @ 2.7GHz, NVIDIA Quadro K2000M.

Any settings I can change to make AutoCad 2017 running smoother?

R2017 runs the same as R2016 here, but I have a different graphics card.

Did you migrate between the two as part of R2017's startup or installation? I did not, a reset of R2017 may help.
Also check Autodesk's website for updated drivers for your video card.
If needed, start unchecking boxes on that pop-up you screenshot from the bttom up and see if that helps too.

For some reason, AutoCad 2017 has started to run smoothly on my PC, similar to the performance I experienced from AutoCad 2016.

Not sure what happened. Have not changed any settings. Just used AutoCad 2017 for a few days, and now everything works fine.

Restarted the PC several times after installing AutoCad2017. But it was very slow/laggy the first two days.

No idea why it suddenly decided to run smoothly.

It has gotten better, but I still press the large "A" and wait about two seconds for the menu to drop. I will continue to restart my computer over the next couple of days and see if things improve. I also changed my graphics setting to use DirectX and now layout switching is much better.

I got the same issue. Really slow. When I click on big "A", same 2 seconds. Also when I choose a layer in the layer dialog box, screen refreshing is long.

I'm interested to get some advice on this situation if anybody can help.

The direct x change fixed my computer. After I restarted the PC a couple of times everything seemed to work out and now all is good.

Same isue here...  I have 2016 and 2014 Civil3D and 2017(demo) going slow, even at the startup take more times and crash often...  I gonna wait for a service pack 1 before installing to work with as I always do with any versions....

While "AutoCAD 2017 slow" can be very depending on drawings and configuration I can say that I don't have any crashes while starting AutoCAD 2017 (or Map 3D 2017 or Civil 3D 2017), so that seems to be more specific to any of your system settings/drivers.

It takes 45 sec to open the Autocad 2017, it is too slow for zoom-in/out, worse than Autocad v11.

For me it's about 10-15 sec (as long as it's not the first start after login).

Start command _GRAPHICSCONFIG and show us a screenshot from that dialog.

Generally it's hard to compare, drawings created 5 years ago are not that big as today, that is one difference to take care about. It is correct (my feeling) that most of the development work seems to be done in 3D-performance, so if you are working more 2D then you might not see all that advantages.

Visual Styles: are you working with visual style "2D Wireframe" or "Wireframe" or most on 3D-visual styles?

mine was also very slow for few days. not workable at all. slow at zoom in and out. Today I switched the visual style to 2d wireframe which I happened to set to conceptual before. Not its fast again.

but it is still frustrating, for instance when you use a lot of intersections, after a while  efforts to modify intersections parameters became so slowly and paining, that sometimes i start to think is it worth.

I am having similar issues with slow response from AutoCAD Architecture 2017. When I start my PC, AutoCAD runs fine. But after some time every command slows down. Just drawing a line or editing text causes a delay of a few seconds. I tried:

- Toggle graphics acceleration functions

- Turn of McAfee virus protection, firewall, etc.

- Reset AutoCAD settings

- Run as administrator

The same issue appears in older versions 2015 and 2016 and it seems to have started after a Windows 10 update, though I do not recall the problem when I first installed Windows 10. The issue occurs regardless of file, even blank drawings. My PC is standalone with no drawings or templates shared across a network.

Hi,

some additional ideas to what you have tried already:

• make sure your %TEMP% folder is clean (at least does not contain thousands of files)
• disconnect your system from network so it can't find file-server, printer, internet and continue to work in that environment.

Please let us also know how much memory you have in your system and which graphic card (graphic card with shared memory can show similar symptoms)

Thanks for the response. I am running:

Intel i7-4510 CPU 2.60GHz

8 GB RAM

64-bit Windows 10

integrated Intel HD graphics

I understand this is not ideal for graphics performance, but given that AutoCAD works smoothly at startup and I am not changing graphics settings in the middle of working on a drawing, I would not pinpoint my issue to the graphic card.

After some additional experimentation with working offline, disabling McAfee and various other programs, I found that disabling Citrix Receiver fixed the lagging AutoCAD performance. So far.

Be careful, the Intel GC uses shared memory, that means that it's graphic memory is not on the graphic card, it uses the main memory.

And so the longer you do have AutoCAD open the more shared memory is used by the graphic card and so reduces your system memory.

Every restart of AutoCAD gives the chance to clean up, but without restart it's a handicap which raises during the work.

Are you working on Citrix or just installed it for some other reasons?
