Unable to apply new material to 3D solid

I have a drawing with multiple solids on it and different materials applied to each (wood colors/types based on tga files).  The drawing was originally created with AutoCAD 2008, and now I am running AutoCAD 2011 (Mechanical).

If I use an old material - it will stretch to cover the entire solid, but if I create a new material, or modify and old one, it will not stretch.  It will either be as large as the sample size, tile, or not apply at all.   I've made copies of the original materials (without changing anything) and they don't work where the original does?  I've even tried new jpg files of the old tga, with no difference.  Any idea's as to what I'm missing?

I've also noted that in the help files that there is a "Fit to Object" under when useing "MATERIALMAP", but when I actually use it that option is missing!  Same goes for any "Fit to Gizmo" options.

Attached is a sample drawing with one of the materials and an exact copy of that material, and a jpg version of the image file.
