too large flile

hello

I need help with a dwg file. Its geometry content is light . it has no unreferenced xref of images.
it looks clean , its has been purged including appReg

still it weights 16 MB in 2004 format
when saved to 2000 format it takes 144 MB space

i cannot post it here because it is over 6MB even compressed

autocad freezes when either of these is perfomed
- audit and fix
-saving to a format older than 2000
-saving to dxf
-wblocking all or some of the file. (even wblocking a single object freezes.)

i suspect invisible content is involved , like AEC or similar . or perhaps language pack related ...
issue is the same with autocad 2012 and 2014 .

any help appreciated

look at the linetypes listed in the drawing.  Best guess is that it's infested with DGN linetypes.  yes, or no?

yes correct

except they are not dgn linetype but custom linetypes

define custon linetype -- what are some examples?  can you post a screenshot of the linetype listing, and of the linetypes?

(they may not start with DGN in the name, but that does not mean they are not DGN linetypes)

but, since you gcan get it down to a reasonable size in Acad Y2K format, why not just work with that in 2014?

dxfout and save back as dwg seems to do it .  thanks for pointing the right direction

You could try to make wblock from the drawing just select all you need. Normally the rubish in the drawing will be gone. Almost the same as making a dxf, but the function in  corporated from autodesk are not lost this way.
