When I insert a block, the little box in the upper right hand corner that shows the thumbnail, the thumbnail doesn't show up. Is this a variable I have turned off? If so what?

Solved! by centurymechanical. See the answer in context.
After all this time, the thumbnail is working today, I installed the service pack 1 last week maybe it had something to do with it.
I presume you are talking about the preview during block insert. I have highlighted a screenshot for you. Let me know, if this is the one you have issue with.
Thanks Mark. Can you check the system variable DRAGMODE. Can you check whether its ON or OFF. You can either set the value to 1 or 2. Let me know whether it helps or not.
Yes, some drawing I'am working in have the thumbnails missing and some don't. I can understand why some do and some don't, I start with the same drawing blank.
This probably depends on the version of the drawing you are trying to insert. 2011 okay, 2004, probably no icon. That's the way it's always been with the preview viewers.
Yes this can happen if you have blocks from Older file versions. Can you able to share one in which you can't see a thumbnail preview and also let me know the AutoCAD release in which it was created. This would help me to investigate further.
