Gentlemen,

As much as we'd all love to engage in a lively discussion of the benefits and shortcomings of various CAD programs, let's face it, all you're going to do is further convince yourselves.  You're not going to convince each other.  Please cease and desist.  Thanks.

That's why I suggested posting your SolidWorks solution.

I'm curious to see what you are doing.
I might learn something.

Check out www.accuratediedesign.com

There is a video there with a complete die being designed in 3 hours.

Don't you have anything you've done in SolidWorks that you can attach here?

Could you whip up a quick example?

I have a strip layout we have done. Its not a full design, but is a good example of the needs to be able to unfold a part.

Is that work you created?  Or is that training file you got from someone else?

...and of course a sldasm file without sldprt files is useless.
This is usually covered early on in training.

A sldasm file is simply a list of hyperlinks to the part files and a record of assembly constraints and a bit more.
How much SWx experience do you have?  (or Inventor, or Pro/E.....)

When you used MDT did you use library parts or did you keep everything in one file?
