saving layout with their layer configurations within the viewports

I know how to save a layout as a template. I know how to insert a saved layout template into a new drawing. I am having problems retaining the layer configuration within the viewport of that saved layout. The viewport within the layouts that I have saved and now brought into a new drawing have every layer from the old drawing turned on within the viewport. My layer configuration within that viewport has not been saved. Please advise

Save a LayerState in the original drawing, export it to file, and then import it to the new file and restore it.

Thanks for your advise. That did work but some of the vp colors were not saved, but this minor. I would think saving the layout would also save layer state within the viewport.

Thanks again
