From the current R2011 help
Does this work for anyone? Everytime I type a R I get the REDRAW command. Is there a simple way to rotate a view inside a viewport? I have a site plan in model space a site view in one viewport in paperspace and I want another viewport with a specific building rotated to match the floor plans. Is that so hard?
Sort of answer. Use the MVSETUP command with the A (align) and then R (rotate view) options.
Funny thing is I tried this three times before posting. ALways got a unknown command error when typing everything out. But when I selected the options from the pop ups it worked. But it took a long time after entering the angle I wanted the view rotated.
I was does the Autodesk Spell Checker not recognize VIEWPORT?
"Enter r (Rotate) to rotate the view to a specified angle or with two points."
You might want to check the command alias. Rotate command on my system is RO.
I've always used MVSETUP in the past but I find this method quite simple.
