INSUFFICIENT DATA

Exactly how are you publishing?  sheetset manager? Publish command/dialog? picking layout tabs and right-clicking?

Are you using named page setups?  and do all the pages etups actually point to valid devices/paths?  any PC3 files that are out of date?

Hardware, CAD Version and service pack level, OS version, devices that you are trying to publish to....

It doesnt matter how we publish we get the same result. we are working on 2012, windows 7 64bit. we are trying to publish to pdf and named plotter. all attempts have been unsuccessful. click the button...FROZEN

Let's verify:  You've checked ALL the paths in Options|Files tab, and all are valid?  You've checked ALL the pc3 files that show up, and can plot correctly to all of them using the PLOT command?  There are no missing ctb/stb files? Can you publish to DWF/DWFx? Can you plot to DWF?

Are you using Named PageSetups in the drawings?  Are you using SheetSet Manager? Are you using the DWGtpPDF plotter?  Adobe? some other?

If you type in PUBLISH at the command line, exactly when does it hang up?  Can you add files and change pagesetups there?

Are there any messages/alerts/warning that show up in Windows Event Vuiewer?  (Right click on My computer, and choose Manage)

And finally, have you tried running a Repair of Acad from Windows Control Panel?

I'm not looking over your shoulder, so you need to give us the information to help you fix it.  I can tell you that Publish works w/o problems here.

Start a new file.
In modelspace, start PAGESETUP command and set up the DWG TO PDF.PC3 file are a plotter.
Click on he first Layout Tab and do the same as above with PAGESETUP.
Click on the second Layout Tab and do the same again.

SAVE the file to your desktop and give it a disposable name.

Start PUBLISH command: does it hang?

Make sure in OPTIONS you unclick the box for the Background option for publishing.

Allright, sounds like it's time to break out the big guns.  It's almost certain that Acad is looking for something on your system/network and hanging up on not finding it.

Download ProcessExplorer from Microsift, and use that to see _exactly_ what's hanging things.  Note that PE will generate a large amount of data, so play around with the options and try to drill in on acad and related processes.
